Spotlight on Bolzano-Bowen

We are delighted to invite applications for the 5th edition of the SPOTLIGHT Summer School, that will take place in Bolzano–Bozen, Italy, from 13 to 20 September 2026. We invite MA and PhD students to explore documentary filmmaking as a research method and a mode of knowledge production.

The 2026 edition turns to Bolzano-Bozen, a city of layered histories and contested temporalities. Through audiovisual methods, participants will investigate how memory, identity, and belonging are embedded in urban space. Working with film means going beyond text: engaging with sound, rhythm, embodiment, and atmosphere to capture what often remains unspoken.

No prior filmmaking experience is required -just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to experiment.
